Culture of Goan Catholics. The Culture of Goan Catholics is an blend of Portuguese and Indian cultures. After the Portuguese arrived Goa at 1510, they adopted the Portuguese culture but they retained their Hindu caste system and few other customs and traditions.
Traditions and festivals:
Goan Catholics have been retained their Hindu caste system and customs regarding marriage.Shigmo this festival is celebrated during springtime and the celebrations extend to five days. During this festivals, honor is paid to various warriors to return to their home after defeating the invaders.
Cuisine:
Rice, seafood, coconut, vegetables, meat, pork local spices etc is some of the main ingredient in Goan cuisine. The area is located in an tropical climate, which means that spices and flavors are intense.
Traditional dress:
Goan Catholic women commonly wear dress/gowns. These are some of the common attires for females. Mens put on the bridegroom and suits of western-style. The virgin-white gown is worn by bride.
Dance :
Women perform an number of traditional dances like Dekni - a rare blend of traditional and modern music. Fugdi and Dhalo are the most common folk dances of Goa. The Kunbi is a tribal folk dance. Women holding lamps on their is heads perform the lamp dance during Shigmo festivals.
