Sikkim today is a rapidly evolving society. Its major towns like Gangtok the capital city, Namchi and Jorethang already are urbanizing at a steady pace. More and more people are being attracted by business opportunities and gradually imbibing the  character.
Though Sikkim is predominantly a Buddhist state its spirit is secular and here churches, monasteries, gurdwaras, mosques and temples co-exist peacefully.

It is hard to define the true culture of Sikkim ? it could best be called a wonderful mosaic, a unique pattern made beautiful by the unusual harmony in its individually colourful threads. And that is its trait.

The predominant communities are the Lepchas, the Bhutias and the Nepalese and over the years there have been inter-racial marriages among the three.
      GOD THEY WORSHIP

According to legend, khyebumsa, a 14th-century prince from the minyak House in kham in eastern tibet, received a divine revelation instructing him to travel south to seek his fortunes. A fifth-generation descendant of Khye  became the founder of Sikkim's monarchy in 1642, when he was consecrated as the first chogyal, or priest-king, of Sikkim by the three venerated  at yuksom Phuntsog Namgyal was succeeded in 1670 by his son, ten sung namgyal, who moved the capital from Yuksom to rabdents .

In 1700, Sikkim was invaded by the bhutanes with the help of the half-sister of the Chogyal, who had been denied the throne.

                           DRESS

Rhododendron groves and beautifully dense subtropical woodlands. Snow-capped Himalayan mountains featuring the third-highest in the world, the Kanchenjunga. A mesmerizing sight on the north-western horizon at dawn. Tibetan Buddhist monasteries coexisting with Hindu shrines. Lip-smacking momos and thukpas finding their ways to meet an end to a perfect day.

Cloaked away and shrouded in the mystery of seclusion, Sikkim is nothing short of a slice of (tourist) heaven. The place owes its charm to its detachment from the chaos and commotion of modern-day concrete jungles we always want to get away from.
